COOKIE NOTICE (GLOBAL)

Uber and its third-party partners use "cookies" and other tracking technologies (collectively, "Tracking Technologies"), including third-party Tracking Technologies, on Uber's websites, apps, email communications, ads, and other online services (collectively, "Online Properties"). These are used to enable, enhance, personalize and analyze use of Uber's services ("Services") and Online Properties, and for purposes of personalized ads.

This Notice describes the Tracking Technologies that we and our partners use, how we use them, how long they remain associated with your device, and your choices regarding such Tracking Technologies. For more information regarding Uber's collections and uses of personal data, please see our User Privacy Notice.

The Tracking Technologies we use

We use the following Tracking Technologies for the purposes described in this Notice:

"Cookies" are small text files that are placed and stored on your browser when you visit a website, or on your device when you use an app. They may be created and placed by either the website or app you are visiting (in which case they are referred to as "first party" cookies), or by websites or apps other than the one you are visiting (in which case they are referred to as "third party cookies"). We use both "session cookies," which expire when you close your browser, and "persistent cookies," which expire after a set period of time (even if you close your browser). Cookies placed on our Online Properties typically expire 12 months after they are set. Third-party cookies expire in accordance with the third party's own policies, which are linked in the table below.

"Pixel tags" (also called beacons) are small blocks of code placed on webpages, apps, emails or ads that enable us to identify users when providing our Services and track interactions with our Online Properties.

"Software Development Kits" (also called SDKs) are blocks of code that are functionally similar to cookies and pixel tags, except for mobile apps. SDKs allow their developers to collect information about the device and network you use to access our apps, and about your interaction with ours apps.

"Local storage" refers to files that are created by apps or websites, and stored on your device or browser. Such files function similarly to cookies.

How we use Tracking Technologies

The following table describes the categories of Tracking Technologies (including cookies, pixel tags, SDKs, and local storage files) that are placed on the Online Properties, the purposes for which they are used, and whether placed by Uber or third parties.

The list of parties that serve these Tracking Technologies is subject to change. In addition, the Tracking Technologies used, and the parties that serve them, may vary depending on jurisdiction, and across the Online Properties. A current list of third-party providers placing Tracking Technologies on our Online Properties is available in the table below. We endeavor to update this table whenever we add or remove a partner.

The data collected by third parties through the Tracking Technologies they place on the Online Properties is subject to the third parties' privacy notices. For more information regarding their practices, please follow the links in the table below. Some of these third parties act as independent controllers of the data they collect, and some may transfer unique user or device data outside the EEA and the UK. Further information on international transfers and the safeguards we rely on is set out in our User Privacy Notice.

Except as relates to Strictly Necessary Tracking Technologies, you can control how we use the below Tracking Technologies as described in the "Your choices" section of this Notice.

Your choices

You can control how Uber and its third-party partners use non-essential Tracking Technologies on our Online Properties as follows:

A. Website Tracking Technologies

Depending on your location, you may be presented with a "cookie banner" when you visit our websites that disclose our use of Tracking Technologies, and enable you to accept or reject non-essential Tracking Technologies. Please note that declining non-essential Tracking Technologies may limit the availability and functionality of our Services. Where consent is required, non-essential Tracking Technologies are not placed unless and until you accept them, and you can change or withdraw your choices at any time using the cookie preference link in the footer of our websites. If you are located in the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we place non-essential Tracking Technologies only with your consent, which we ask for before they are placed. You may withdraw your consent at any time, and as easily as you gave it, using the controls described in the "Your choices" section below. Withdrawing consent does not affect Tracking Technologies already placed before you withdrew it.

B. Browser settings

Your browser may allow you to decline cookies. To do so, please follow the instructions provided by your browser (which are usually located within the "Help" or "Preferences" menu). Browser settings are not a substitute for the consent choices described in this section, and declining cookies only in your browser may not prevent all Tracking Technologies.

C. In-app choices

Depending on your location, you may be presented with additional consent preferences in the Uber apps which enable you to accept or reject non-essential Tracking Technologies used within our apps. You can review and change these in-app preferences at any time in the app under Settings > Privacy. These controls are separate from, and in addition to, the operating-system controls described below.

D. Third-party opt-out links

Some third-party Tracking Technology providers enable you to reject their Tracking Technologies using an opt-out link. Where available, we have provided such opt-out links in the table above.

E. Operating system choices

You may choose how we use Tracking Technologies on your mobile device using the choices offered by your device's operating system.

For iOS users, Uber provides an 'App Privacy' statement located within the iOS App Store that describes how Uber may, with your permission, track your activities on other companies' apps, websites or offline properties for purposes of targeted ads or measurement. If you grant Uber permission to "Allow Tracking," via iOS, Uber will be permitted to track your activities as described in the App Privacy Statement. This 'Allow Tracking' or 'Ask App Not To Track' choice is applied irrespectively of the in-app preferences listed above. To modify this setting for your iOS device, visit the Settings/Privacy/Tracking and use the toggles associated with Uber's apps.

For Android mobile devices, Uber provides a 'Data Safety' statement located within the Google Play Store that includes data shared, data collected and safety practices. You can find the Uber Rides Android App Data Safety Notice here, and Uber Eats Android App Data Safety Notice here. You can control whether or how third parties can track your activities by modifying or deleting your Android device's ad identifier, specifically by visiting your device settings/Privacy/Ads and choosing to either 'Reset advertising ID' or 'Delete advertising ID'. Please note that these operating-systems do not control Uber's own use of Tracking Technologies within the Uber apps, which you can manage as described in section C.

F. Uber settings for data sharing and collection for ads

You can choose whether Uber may use your personal data, including data regarding your interactions with third party apps and websites, for purposes of personalized ads or marketing here.

If you are located in the United States, you can also opt-out from the "sale," or "sharing" of your personal data for purposes of personalized ads here or by communicating your opt-out preferences via your web browser using Global Privacy Control (GPC). If you are located in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, personalized ads rely on your consent rather than an opt-out, and you can withdraw that consent using the controls described above.

G. Email tracking

We use pixel tags in our marketing emails to understand whether they are opened and which links are clicked. You can withdraw that consent, or prevent this tracking by unsubscribing from marketing emails using the link in the email footer, or navigating to your Communications Preferences settings here.

More information

For further information about cookies, including how to see what advertising cookies have been set on your device and how to manage and delete them, you can visit http://youradchoices.com/ (US), www.youronlinechoices.eu (EU), or www.youradchoices.ca (Canada).

If you have any questions about our use of Tracking Technologies, please review the FAQ's in the "Data & Privacy" section here, where you may also submit your questions.

Updates to this Notice

We may occasionally update this notice. Where we make material changes to the Tracking Technologies we use or the purposes for which we use them, we will notify you and, where required, ask for your consent again. The date on which this Notice was last updated is shown at the top of this page.
