pixiv Service Master Terms of Use
pixiv updated two documents: the main Creator/Master Terms now let a Creator optionally give pixiv joint ownership of the copyright in their posted work (so pixiv can enforce it against infringers), and the 'Pastela' drawing-app terms were rewritten to add a new 'Material File' (brush/settings file) system with new disclaimers, sale rules, and new company discretion over cloud storage and posting features.
New option to let pixiv co-own the copyright to your posted work
pixiv added a feature where, if you choose to turn it on, your copyright in a posted work becomes jointly held by you and pixiv. This lets pixiv independently go after people who infringe your work, but it also means part of your copyright is now legally shared with the company rather than being yours alone. You keep the right to use, license, or sell the work freely, and pixiv can't otherwise exploit it without your consent, so the downside is limited if you don't opt in.
“If a Creator chooses to share the copyright in their Posted Content with the Company, notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, the copyright shall be jointly owned by the Creator who created and registered the Posted Content and the Company”
What you can do — This is opt-in — only enable copyright sharing if you're comfortable giving pixiv joint ownership and independent enforcement rights over that specific piece of content.
pixiv can now restrict what you can store or post in Pastela
Previously, once you linked your account, you could store, view, delete, and post your drawing files as described in the terms. Now those same actions are only available 'within the scope permitted by the Company,' meaning pixiv can narrow or restrict these features at its own discretion without the terms specifying limits.
“The User can, within the scope permitted by the Company, do the following by carrying out Account Linkage:”
No guarantee your brush/settings files will keep working
pixiv added language saying it does not promise that Material Files (like custom brush settings) — whether made by you or obtained from someone else — will keep working in the app. If a file you rely on or paid for stops functioning, pixiv isn't responsible.
“The Company does not guarantee that Material Files will permanently function on the App.”
You're responsible if a sold or shared Material File causes a dispute
If you buy, sell, or transfer Material Files with other users, pixiv now explicitly says it won't get involved if something goes wrong between you and that other person, and warns that a file could be misused by third parties after it's shared — the risk and resolution are entirely on you.
“The Company shall not be involved in any dispute between a User and a third party, and the User shall resolve such dispute at his or her own responsibility.”
What you can do — Be cautious about selling or sharing Material Files, since pixiv will not help resolve disputes or misuse involving them.
| 1194 | 1194 | 2. If there is a change in the email address notified to the Company by a User when the User opened a pixiv account, the User must notify the Company of the new email address without delay. |
| 1195 | 1195 | 3. Each User will be liable for any detriment incurred by the User as a result of failing to confirm or provide notices as prescribed in the preceding two paragraphs, and the Company will not be liable for any such damage. |

| 1198 | 1198 | |
| 1199 | 1199 | 1. When updating an Individual Service or the like, the Company may at its own discretion modify the Posted Content created using the Individual Service with the intent of optimizing how the Posted Content looks and works on the Individual Service. |

| 1200 | 2. Copyrights (including the rights outlined in Articles 27 and 28 of the Japanese Copyright Act; the same applies hereinafter) and all other rights related to Posted Content belong to the User who creates and registers the Posted Content. | |
± CHANGEDCopyright definition now explicitly includes adaptation/secondary-use rights The clause saying creators keep the copyright to their posted work now spells out that 'copyright' includes the specific Japanese Copyright Act rights to adapt and make secondary use of a work.
| 1201 | 3. If a Creator chooses to share the copyright in their Posted Content with the Company, notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, the copyright shall be jointly owned by the Creator who created and registered the Posted Content and the Company, while all other rights shall belong to the Creator. In such case, the Creator and the Company may use the Posted Content created and registered by the Creator and exercise the copyright therein in accordance with the following provisions: | |
+ ADDEDNew optional joint copyright ownership with pixiv A new clause lets a Creator choose to make pixiv a joint owner of the copyright in their posted content. If they opt in, pixiv can enforce that copyright against infringers on its own, while the Creator keeps the right to freely use, license, or sell the work without needing pixiv's permission.
| 1202 | 1. The Company may, at its sole discretion, exercise any rights based on the copyright in the Posted Content (including the right to seek an injunction under each paragraph of Article 112 of the Japanese Copyright Act) against any agent who infringes or is likely to infringe such copyright. The Company shall not exercise the copyright in the Posted Content for any other purpose without the Creator's prior consent. | |
| 1203 | 2. The Creator may, without obtaining the Company's consent, reproduce, publicly transmit, adapt, modify, or otherwise use the Posted Content in any manner, grant licenses to third parties, and otherwise exercise all rights based on the copyright in the Posted Content. | |
