Underneath that, several real changes stand out: NYT says it may use automated technology to scan and monitor users' private direct messages; direct messages are now officially counted as "Submissions," which means they fall under the same permanent, sublicensable license NYT takes over user content; new Acceptable Use Policies (including a Crossplay policy for games) are pulled into the contract by reference; and NYT can now terminate accounts for breaking those separate policies, not just these Terms. On the positive side, new sections give UK users complaint and reporting rights, EU users official Digital Services Act contact points, and users in India a Grievance Officer.Read the analysis
