NOTED
FIRST SEEN 2026-09-10 · VERSION 20260910_rev01 · COMPARED WITH 20260907_rev01

What changed, in plain language

How reviews are made

This update to Change.org's Privacy Policy is purely cosmetic. It changes heading levels (e.g. from H4 to H3, H3 to H2) and re-indents a bulleted list, but does not add, remove, or change any actual policy language about what data is collected, how it's used, shared, retained, or any of your rights.

This change appears to be cosmetic (formatting, typos, or contact details).

Changelog

  1. ± CHANGEDHeading levels changed throughout the document

Several section and subsection headings were changed from one heading size to another (for example '#### Categories of Personal Data We Collect' became '### Categories of Personal Data We Collect', and top-level numbered sections like '### 3. How We Use Your Information' became '## 3. How We Use Your Information'). This is a formatting/styling change only and does not affect the meaning of the policy.

    #### Categories of Personal Data We Collect

    ### Categories of Personal Data We Collect

  2. ± CHANGEDBulleted list under 'Categories of Sources of Personal Data' re-indented

The list explaining how Change.org collects information directly from you was reformatted with sub-bullets nested under their parent bullet, instead of being listed as separate top-level bullets. The same information is still there, just organized more clearly.

25 - Through Cookies (defined in the [Information from Cookies and Similar Technologies](https://change.org/policies/privacy) section below).
3026- Public Records
3127 - Currently in the United States only, we use information available in public records, or other publicly available databases, such as civic data APIs which help match citizens with the elected officials who represent them in all levels of the government.
3228 - In the United States, we receive data from the [Google Civic Information API](https://developers.google.com/civic-information) and the [BallotReady API](https://organizations.ballotready.org/ballotready-api) that contain lists of local and federal office holders and legislators, state legislators, and governors. That data is integrated into our platform to enable users in the United States to accurately identify the correct Decision Maker for their petition. We also use this data to match petitions from a particular district to the right political representative. We do not share any user data via the [Google Civic Information API](https://developers.google.com/civic-information) and the [BallotReady API](https://organizations.ballotready.org/ballotready-api). In the future, we may carry out similar activities in other countries, subject to applicable law.
3329 - In the United States, we receive voter data from [Aristotle](https://www.aristotle.com/data/political-data/) to estimate aggregate statistics about the voter registration statuses of petition signers. This data may be reported in aggregate on petition pages and is not stored or used for any other purpose.

Please see details about our use of cookies in our Please see our [Cookie Policy](https://change.org/policies/cookies).

Information for Interest-Based Ads (including Personal Data) may be provided to us by you, or derived from the usage patterns of particular users on the Services and/or services of third parties. Such information may be gathered through tracking users' activities across time and unaffiliated properties, including when you leave the Services. To accomplish this, we or our service providers may deliver Cookies, including a file (known as a "web beacon") from an ad network to you through the Services.
