End User License Agreement (EULA)
BitTorrent rewrote the open source section of its EULA. The changes are clarifying and mostly in your favor: it now names one more open source component (VLCKit/libVLC), says that if the EULA ever conflicts with an open source license the open source license wins, and confirms the EULA does not take away your LGPL rights to modify, replace, relink, or reverse engineer those components for debugging. It also fixes a misspelled author name and switches an OpenSSL link to a secure address. Nothing was added that reduces your rights.

| 11 | Subject to your compliance with these terms and conditions, BitTorrent Limited grants you a royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Software, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes. Notwithstanding the foregoing, uTorrent Lite leverages WebTorrent software licensed under the MIT License at [https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE](https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE) (copyright Feross Adoukhadijeh), the BitTorrent Play Software includes FFmpeg software licensed under the GNU LGPL v 2.1 license and the utWeb Software includes FFmpeg software under the GNU LGPL v.2.1 license, software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in the OpenSSL Toolkit. ([http://www.openssl.org/](http://www.openssl.org/)) and libtorrent software under the license at [https://github.com/arvidn/libtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE](https://github.com/arvidn/libtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE) (the "Other Software"), which, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, is licensed to you under those respective licenses and not under the license from BitTorrent Limited). | 11 | Subject to your compliance with these terms and conditions, BitTorrent Limited grants you a royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Software, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Software may include third-party open source software, including uTorrent Lite's use of WebTorrent software licensed under the MIT License at [https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE](https://github.com/webtorrent/webtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE) (copyright Feross Aboukhadijeh); FFmpeg software licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1; VLCKit/libVLC software licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 2.1; software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in the OpenSSL Toolkit ([https://www.openssl.org/](https://www.openssl.org/)); and libtorrent software licensed under its applicable license at [https://github.com/arvidn/libtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE](https://github.com/arvidn/libtorrent/blob/master/LICENSE) (collectively, the "Other Software"). The Other Software is licensed to you under its respective licenses and not under the license from BitTorrent Limited. To the extent these terms and conditions conflict with the applicable license for any Other Software, the applicable license will control. Nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to restrict any rights granted to you under the applicable licenses for the Other Software, including any rights to modify, replace, relink, or reverse engineer LGPL-covered components for the purpose of debugging modifications to those components. BitTorrent Limited reserves all rights in the Software, excluding the Other Software, not expressly granted to you here. | |
+ ADDEDOpen source licenses now override the EULA if they conflict New sentence says that if BitTorrent's own terms clash with the license of an open source part of the app, the open source license wins. This is good for you — it means BitTorrent's rules can't quietly shrink rights that the open source license gives you. + ADDEDEULA now confirms it does not block your LGPL rights, including reverse engineering for debugging BitTorrent added language saying nothing in the EULA is meant to limit the rights the open source licenses give you — specifically the right to modify, replace, relink, or reverse engineer LGPL-covered parts so you can debug your own changes. The general 'no reverse engineering' rule elsewhere in the agreement stays the same, but this carves out the open source pieces. + ADDEDVLCKit/libVLC added to the list of open source components The list of third-party open source software inside the app now also names VLCKit/libVLC, under the LGPL version 2.1. This is a disclosure of what's in the software, not a new restriction on you. ± CHANGEDFFmpeg listed once for the whole app instead of per product The old text tied FFmpeg specifically to 'BitTorrent Play' and 'utWeb'. The new text simply says the Software may include third-party open source software and lists FFmpeg under LGPL 2.1 generally. Same license, simpler wording that covers all their apps. ± CHANGEDSpelling of the WebTorrent author's name corrected The copyright credit was misspelled as 'Adoukhadijeh' and is now correctly 'Aboukhadijeh'. No effect on you. ± CHANGEDOpenSSL link switched to a secure https address The OpenSSL project link changed from http to https. Cosmetic, but a slightly safer link. | ||
