Agoda Platform and Booking Terms of Use

What changed, in plain language

How reviews are made

Agoda changed the rules for its up-to-5% currency conversion fee on 'Pay Now' bookings: previously you could avoid the fee by charging in your own Display Currency, but now you must charge in the hotel's local currency (Product Currency) instead. Agoda also added several new clauses clarifying refunds, exchange-rate timing, and that hotels/suppliers aren't responsible for currency conversion issues.

Changes that may affect you

Harder to avoid the currency conversion fee on 'Pay Now' bookingsMATERIAL
BILLING & RENEWAL

Agoda charges up to 5% extra when your payment currency doesn't match a reference currency. Previously, simply choosing to be charged in your own currency (Display Currency) avoided this fee. Now, the fee is only avoided if you choose to be charged in the hotel's local currency instead — which is often unfamiliar or inconvenient for you. In practice, many travelers who want to pay in their own currency will now pay this fee when they previously wouldn't have.

“will be added to the Bloomberg Generic Composite Rate when Charge Currency is different from Product Currency”

What you can do — On the payment page, if you want to avoid the up-to-5% surcharge, select the hotel's local currency (Product Currency) as your Charge Currency rather than your own currency — check which option Agoda labels as fee-free before confirming.

New disclaimer limits your recourse against the hotel for currency issuesMINOR
LIABILITY LIMITS

A newly added clause states that your hotel or travel supplier has no role in Agoda's currency conversion service and that this arrangement doesn't give you any extra rights under your contract with them. This means if a currency conversion problem arises, you can't seek remedy from the hotel — only from Agoda.

“The Travel Supplier is not involved in enabling you to pay in your Display Currency and is not party to the following terms, which do not give you any extra rights under your contract with the Travel Supplier.”

Changelog

  1. ± CHANGEDCurrency choice trigger changed from your card's currency to the hotel's currency

Agoda now offers you a choice of Charge Currency when the hotel's currency (Product Currency) differs from your Display Currency, letting you pick between the two. Before, this choice was offered when your card's currency (Payment Instrument Currency) differed from your Display Currency, and the choice was between Display Currency or your card's currency. Charging in your card's own currency is no longer offered as an option here.

when your Payment Instrument Currency is different from the Display Currency, Agoda may propose you, as Charge Currency, to be charged in Display Currency or Payment Instrument Currency.

when your Product Currency is different from the Display Currency, Agoda may give you a choice over Charge Currency. You can choose to be charged in Display Currency or Product Currency.

  2. ± CHANGED'Pay Now' conversion fee now avoided only by picking the hotel's local currency

For 'Pay Now' bookings, the up-to-5% currency conversion fee used to be waived if you chose to be charged in your own Display Currency. Now that same fee is only waived if you choose to be charged in the hotel's local currency (Product Currency) instead — picking your own currency no longer avoids it.

will be added when Charge Currency is different from Display Currency

will be added to the Bloomberg Generic Composite Rate when Charge Currency is different from Product Currency

  3. ± CHANGED'Book Now, Pay Later' fee exemption simplified

For pay-later bookings, the fee used to be waived only if your Display Currency, Charge Currency, and card currency all matched. Now it's waived simply if your Charge Currency matches the hotel's local currency, regardless of your card's currency. For most people who choose to pay in their own currency, the fee still applies either way.

The Additional Amount will not apply if the Display Currency, Charge Currency, and Payment Instrument Currency are in the same currency.

The Additional Amount will not apply if the Charge Currency is the same currency as the Product Currency.

  4. + ADDEDNew disclaimer: the hotel isn't part of Agoda's currency conversion arrangement

A new clause states that your hotel or travel supplier has no involvement in Agoda letting you pay in your own currency, and that this doesn't give you any extra rights against them.

The Travel Supplier is not involved in enabling you to pay in your Display Currency and is not party to the following terms, which do not give you any extra rights under your contract with the Travel Supplier.

  5. + ADDEDNew clarification on how paying in your currency works

A new clause explains that when you pay in your own currency, Agoda still pays the hotel in its local currency, and any related fees will show as a separate line item in your total price.

you are not making payment in one currency and receiving another currency. If you choose to pay in your Display Currency, all fees and charges from us appear as a separate line item

  6. + ADDEDNew clarification on exchange rate timing

A new clause clarifies that the exchange rate used is the one shown to you at the moment your total price is displayed, and that this displayed total is what you'll actually be charged.

The exchange rate is determined when the total payment (or estimated total payment) is displayed for your booking on the Platform.

  7. + ADDEDNew rule: currency stays the same if you change your booking

If you modify a booking, Agoda will keep using the currency you originally selected rather than letting you switch.

If you make a change to your booking, the currency which you initially chose will be used.

  8. + ADDEDNew refund guarantee

A new clause guarantees that if you cancel within an eligible window, you'll be refunded the exact amount you were charged, including any currency conversion fees — protecting you from exchange-rate losses on refunds.

we will refund you the exact same amount we initially charged you (inclusive of any applicable fees for paying in Display Currency)

  9. ± CHANGEDAdded marketing language and button label update

Agoda added promotional wording framing the currency choice feature as a consumer benefit, and renamed the 'Book Now!' button to 'Pay Now!' in the Pay Now flow. These are cosmetic wording changes with no effect on your rights.

the Platform provides you with the ability to choose the Display Currency and/or the Charge Currency.
