Cookie and Data Collection Technology Notice
This is the first time we captured the full text of Acronis's Cookie and Data Collection Technology Notice, so there is no earlier version stored to compare it against. That means we cannot tell you what, if anything, changed between the July 29, 2026 snapshot and this one — the earlier text is simply missing from our records, and the version labels (20260729_rev02 to 20260811_rev01) show a gap where wording could have changed without us seeing it. The effective date printed on the page is May 28, 2025, but a printed date does not prove the body text stayed the same. What we can describe is what the notice says now: Acronis uses four kinds of cookies (strictly necessary, functionality, performance, and targeting), lets advertising partners build a profile of your interests and identify your browser and device across sites, runs the Reddit Pixel to measure ad performance on other sites, uses cookieless Matomo analytics, applies Google Consent Mode (Advanced), does not honor Do Not Track signals unless required by law, and does honor Global Privacy Control signals where U.S. state privacy laws require it. It also relies on outside geo-IP providers to figure out where you are when applying those choices. The items flagged below are graded on what the current text says, not on any comparison.
Ad partners track you across other websites to build an interest profile
Acronis lets its advertising partners drop tracking tools on your browser. Those partners can follow you onto other websites and put together a picture of what you like, then use it to target ads at you. This is disclosed, and the notice says you can switch these off, which is why it is graded low rather than higher. Note: because we have no earlier copy of this notice, we cannot tell you whether this practice is new or was already there.
“Acronis's advertising partners may use targeting cookies and other data collection technology to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on the Acronis Sites and other sites.”
What you can do — Open the Acronis Privacy Preference Center (linked from acronis.com/legal#cookies) and turn off "Targeting Cookies." Redo this if you ever clear your browser cookies, since the opt-out is itself stored in a cookie.
Your browser and device are singled out with a unique ID
The tracking tools do not just count visits — they pick out your specific browser and device so activity can be tied back to you. Acronis acknowledges this may count as handling personal data under some privacy laws. The Reddit Pixel is named as one tool that records what you do on Acronis's sites and follows ad performance elsewhere. We cannot say whether this is newly added, since no prior version is stored.
“They use these cookies and other data collection technology to uniquely identify your browser and internet device, which under certain privacy laws may amount to processing of personal data.”
What you can do — Turn off targeting cookies in the Acronis Privacy Preference Center, and consider using a browser that blocks third-party trackers by default.
"Do Not Track" browser setting is ignored unless a law forces it
If you have switched on "Do Not Track" in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge, Acronis says it generally will not act on it. It only responds where the law requires. On the better side, Acronis does say it honors Global Privacy Control signals where U.S. state privacy laws require it — that signal is more likely to actually work for you.
“many website operators, including Acronis, do not respond to DNT signals universally or if not required by law”
What you can do — Do not rely on "Do Not Track." Use a browser or extension that sends Global Privacy Control (GPC) instead, and set your choices directly in the Acronis Privacy Preference Center.
Outside companies are used to work out where you are
Acronis passes the job of figuring out your location from your IP address to third-party providers, including when it is deciding whether to apply your cookie settings or honor your opt-out signal. That means another company sees your connection details, and your privacy protections depend on that company guessing your location correctly. If it gets your location wrong, you could be denied rights you are entitled to.
“Acronis relies on third-party providers for obtaining geo-IP location information about its users, including when enabling or disabling cookies and / or honoring GPC signals.”
What you can do — If you are in a state or country with strong privacy rights and the site does not seem to honor your opt-out, email Acronis's privacy contact listed in the notice and ask them to apply your rights directly.

| 2 | ||
| 3 | Effective Date: May 28, 2025 | |
| 4 | ||
| 5 | Cookies are small text files that are sent to or accessed from your web browser or your computer's hard drive. A cookie typically contains the name of the domain (internet location) from which the cookie originated, the 'lifetime' of the cookie (i.e., when it expires) and a randomly generated unique number or similar identifier. A cookie also may contain information about your computer, such as user settings, browsing history and activities conducted while using [www.acronis.com](https://acronis.com/) and related Acronis websites ('Sites'). | |
| 6 | ||
| 7 | Cookies set by Acronis International GmbH and its affiliates (together, 'Acronis') are called 'first party cookies'. Cookies set by other parties are called 'third-party cookies'. Third- party cookies enable Acronis to provide third-party features or functionality on or through the Sites (such as interactive content and analytics). Third-party cookies recognize your browser when it visits the Sites and also when it visits certain other websites and services. | |
| 8 | ||
| 9 | Cookies also are typically categorized as 'session' cookies or 'persistent' cookies. Session cookies are erased when you close your web browser. For example, a session cookie tracks how you navigate through the Sites so that you do not need to re-enter the same information during the same visit to the Sites. Persistent cookies store your preferences and other information for your current and future visits - they are still stored in your browser even if you close it. For example, Acronis may use persistent cookies to record your choice of language and country. | |
| 10 | ||
| 11 | Acronis also uses other types of data collection technology, such as web beacons (also called pixel tags or clear GIFs). A web beacon is a piece of computer code that enables Acronis to monitor user activity and website traffic. | |
| 12 | ||

| 16 | ||
| 17 | ## 1\. How Acronis Uses Data Collection Technology | |
| 18 | ||
| 19 | Data collection technology helps Acronis improve your experience with the Sites by, for example, storing your website language preferences, so you do not have to select it each time you use the Sites, compiling statistics about use of the Sites, helping Acronis analyze technical and navigational information about the Sites, and detecting and preventing fraud. | |
| 20 | ||
| 21 | Acronis uses the following: | |
| 22 | ||
| 23 | ## Strictly Necessary Cookies | |
| 24 | ||
| 25 | These cookies are necessary for the Sites to function and cannot be switched off in Acronis's systems. Acronis usually sets strictly necessary cookies in response to your actions that amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in, or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but then some parts of the Sites will not work. | |
+ ADDEDFour cookie categories described The notice now on record describes strictly necessary cookies (cannot be turned off), functionality cookies, performance cookies, and targeting cookies. Each section points you to the Acronis Privacy Preference Center for the full list of cookie names and how long they last.
| 26 | ||
| 27 | For detailed information on the cookie name, its host, type and duration, check the Cookies settings via Acronis Privacy Preference Center or from [https://www.acronis.com/legal/#cookies](https://www.acronis.com/legal/) | |
| 28 | ||
| 29 | ## Functionality Cookies | |
| 30 | ||
| 31 | These cookies enable the Sites to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. Acronis sets some functionality cookies, while third party providers whose services Acronis added to the Sites set the rest of these cookies. If you do not allow functionality cookies, then services relying on functionality cookies may not function properly. | |
| 32 | ||
| 33 | For detailed information on the cookie name, its host, type and duration, check the Cookies settings via Acronis Privacy Preference Center or from [https://www.acronis.com/legal/#cookies](https://www.acronis.com/legal/) | |
| 34 | ||
| 35 | ## Performance Cookies | |
| 36 | ||
| 37 | These cookies allow Acronis to count visits and traffic sources in order to measure and improve the performance of the Sites. Performance cookies help Acronis gauge the relative popularity of various pages on the Sites as well as see how visitors move around the Sites. Acronis aggregates all information these cookies collect, making it anonymous as a result. If you do not allow performance cookies, Acronis will not know when you have visited the Sites, will not be able to monitor its performance, and as a result - Acronis will not be able to improve the Sites and make it more comfortable for use. | |
| 38 | ||
| 39 | For detailed information on the cookie name, its host, type and duration, check the Cookies settings via Acronis Privacy Preference Center or from [https://www.acronis.com/legal/#cookies](https://www.acronis.com/legal/) | |
| 40 | ||
| 41 | ## Targeting Cookies and Other Data Collection Technology | |
| 42 | ||
| 43 | Depending on the parts of the Sites that you visit, Acronis's advertising partners may set these cookies and other data collection technology. Acronis's advertising partners may use targeting cookies and other data collection technology to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on the Acronis Sites and other sites. They use these cookies and other data collection technology to uniquely identify your browser and internet device, which under certain privacy laws may amount to processing of personal data. If you do not allow targeting cookies and other data collection technology, you will experience fewer targeted advertisements on the Acronis Sites and other sites. | |
+ ADDEDAdvertising partners build an interest profile across websites Acronis's advertising partners can set cookies and other tracking tools that follow you beyond Acronis's own sites to build a picture of what you are interested in, and use that to target ads to you.
| 44 | ||
| 45 | We also use the Reddit Pixel to track interactions on our Sites and to measure ad performance across other sites, and optimize marketing campaigns. | |
+ ADDEDReddit Pixel used for ad tracking The notice names the Reddit Pixel as a tool that records what you do on Acronis's sites and measures how ads perform elsewhere.
| 46 | ||
| 47 | For detailed information on the cookie name, its host, type and duration, check the Cookies settings via Acronis Privacy Preference Center or from [https://www.acronis.com/legal/#cookies](https://www.acronis.com/legal/) | |
| 48 | ||
| 49 | ## Analytics about the use of the Sites | |
| 50 | ||
| 51 | In addition to the data collection technology presented in the Acronis Privacy Preference Center, Acronis also uses "cookieless" analytics, like [Matomo](https://matomo.org/). | |
| 52 | ||
| 53 | This means that we collect anonymous usage data without cookies to analyze Sites interactions such as page visits, clicks, and referrers to help us improve user experience while respecting privacy. | |
+ ADDEDCookieless analytics using Matomo Beyond cookies, Acronis says it uses Matomo to collect anonymous usage data — page visits, clicks, and where you came from — without setting cookies. This is described as a more privacy-respecting method.
| 54 | ||
| 55 | ## 2\. Cookie and Data Collection Technology Management | |
| 56 | ||
| 57 | You can control and manage cookies and other data collection technology using Cookies Consent Management Platform / Acronis Privacy Preference Center banner, if Acronis makes it available in your region; directly via the Acronis Privacy Preference Center; or in your very browser. | |
| 58 | Most browsers allow viewing, managing, deleting or blocking cookies. Please be aware that if you delete or block cookies directly in your browser then some of your preferences can be lost, as well as some functionality may no longer be available, including the ability to opt-out and mange cookies via the Privacy Preference Center as this function itself uses cookie for keeping your preferences. | |
+ ADDEDHow to control cookies You can manage cookies through the consent banner (where Acronis offers one in your region), through the Acronis Privacy Preference Center, or in your browser. The notice warns that wiping cookies in your browser can also wipe your saved opt-out choices, because the opt-out itself is stored in a cookie.
| 59 | ||
| 60 | Acronis does apply Google Consent Mode, Advanced tier. Consent mode communicates users' cookie or app identifier consent status to Google. Tags adjust their behavior and respect users' choices. | |
+ ADDEDGoogle Consent Mode (Advanced tier) in use Acronis passes your consent choices to Google, and Google's tags adjust what they do based on those choices.
| 61 | Consent mode receives users' consent choices from Acronis Cookies Consent Management Platform and dynamically adapts the behavior of Analytics, Ads, and third-party tags that create or read cookies. | |
| 62 | For more information on Google Consent mode, please visit Google's dedicated page: [https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/10000067?hl=en](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/10000067) | |
| 63 | ||
| 64 | ## Do Not Track Signals | |
| 65 | ||
| 66 | Some web browsers (including Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and Chrome) incorporate a "Do Not Track" (**DNT**) or similar feature that signals to websites that a user does not want to have his or her online activity and behavior tracked. If a website that responds to a particular DNT signal receives the DNT signal, the browser can block that website from collecting certain personal information about the browser's user. Not all browsers offer a DNT option, and DNT signals are not yet uniform. For this reason, many website operators, including Acronis, do not respond to DNT signals universally or if not required by law. | |
| 67 | ||
| 68 | Acronis honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) and similar technology (e.g., Universal Opt-Out Mechanisms), as required by the U.S. State Privacy Laws. | |
+ ADDEDDo Not Track ignored; Global Privacy Control honored Acronis says it generally does not act on browser "Do Not Track" signals unless a law requires it. It does say it honors Global Privacy Control and similar universal opt-out signals where U.S. state privacy laws require.
| 69 | ||
| 70 | Acronis relies on third-party providers for obtaining geo-IP location information about its users, including when enabling or disabling cookies and / or honoring GPC signals. | |
+ ADDEDOutside providers used to determine your location Acronis depends on third-party services to work out your location from your IP address, including when deciding how to apply cookie settings and opt-out signals.
| 71 | ||
| 72 | **If at any time you believe that Acronis has not adhered to its specific privacy obligations, please contact us at [\[email protected\]](https://www.acronis.com/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection#b7d3d6c3d69ac7c5d8c3d2d4c3ded8d99ad8d1d1ded4d2f7d6d4c5d8d9dec499d4d8da).
